I put up ELG Business in response to the members of Excellent Living Guide. I started the original ELG in 2005 as a creative outlet (and also to show off the famous Fast Guide To Making Bath Bombs, my first foray into instructional writing.) From there, I wrote two more ebooks teaching beginners to make their own bath and body products.
My website attracted a lot more than beginners; it also attracted people who were incredibly gifted in making artisan cosmetics, perfume, and bath and body products.
Since the original ELG was meant to be my hobby, I kept it separate from my career as a marketing consultant and catalog-style copywriter. I figured people on my email lists were more interested in making products, not sales and marketing, but…
I was completely wrong!
I put up one little article about selling, and I got a ton of email about it. The light finally dawned; a lot of people were interested in building real businesses creating their own luxury products. To support my readers, I created the first paper, “What It Takes,” which became the first installment of my free cosmetic business success course. In this paper, you can read a lot more about my experience working in the luxury bath and body business, so I won’t get into it here.
ELG Business marries the two halves of my life together: luxury products and sales-n-marketing. In a way, I suppose it was inevitable, given some of my childhood experiences with fantasy advertising and brand creation.
Through this website, I hope to provide more practical, valuable information to those serious about creating real brands and real businesses with their products. While my current consulting schedule is completely full, due to the number of businesses on retainer, I am planning some webinar courses on specific topics, such as branding, ethical marketing, and creating a luxury customer experience.
If you’re interested, the best way to familiarize yourself with my style, material, and philosophy is to take the free course, if you haven’t already.
